This elementary music unit plan is packed with fun and interactive activities that teach your students about beat, rhythm, and composition. The entire class works together to learn a rhythm poem and it's matching ostinatos and students will learn how to cooperatively work in their own percussion groups and create a rhythm poem and ostinatos to perform for the class (or teacher).
This unit was created for students from grades 2-5 mainly because of the reading and writing component found in the group work. This unit can be altered to meet the needs of student in kindergarten and Grade 1 by eliminating the group work and just teaching the class activities.
This unit was based off the Saskatchewan Arts Ed Curriculum.
