This is a project I use as a cumulative review of the periodic table, elements, and chemical reactions. The project has all of the guidelines for the students to follow outlined on the download. I post this to my school's website and the students can go from there to download it. If all of your students do not have computer access, you can take them to the library more days, go to the computer lab, or use your school's laptops in the classroom.
I allow the students one week to complete the project and take them to the library for two of those days in case they have questions about finding information.
To assign the students the elements, I have them come draw an element from a hat. This keeps the process random and fair. The students get really excited about this part and they want to know each others' element.
The students really enjoy this project. They love being able to create a facebook profile and place their elements in a relationship with the element they enjoy bonding to most commonly. This project promotes a lot of creativity and the students are able to use their imagination.
