This poster can be used for a short, fun, research project on an element. It can be completed in a class period or two. I usually use this as a final project for a lesson on atoms and molecules or an introduction to the periodic table. In the large space I have the students write the symbol for the element with the atomic weight and number. They can also illustrate some of its uses. They might even want to draw out their element showing the protons, electrons, and neutrons. There is also a section to list physical and chemical properties which can lead to a lesson on these properties or serve as a reinforcement of a previous lesson. I usually print out the poster in black and white for a rough draft. Once approved, I have them write it neatly on their color copy. Students can present their reports to the class and hang them in the hallway. Students who research their own element will never forget it and often will remember the other student's elements years later. The reward line is just for fun!
