This is a graphic organizer for students to use as they search for examples of the Elements of Art in Magazines.
I use this activity early in the year as students are becoming familiar with the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. I find that by using magazines, students begin to see that "art is everywhere". Student also begin to explore how to break down an image into its artistic properties.
There is a box and visual example for each element of art. Students should find an image that shows that element and glue it in each box. There is also a space to write which Principle of Design organized that element. I usually do this activity in partners to encourage dialog about images.
I also have students glue this sheet into the front of their sketchbook so that they have a reference for the rest of the year. Check out my store to find the directions on how to build handmade sketchbooks with your students!
