Hands on simulations are the best way to learn history. In this investigation students take on the neolithic age (very easily adaptable to other eras of history too) as archaeologists who have discovered a lost civilization. With only physical evidence to guide them, as this culture had no decipherable written language, they must put the pieces together, ask good questions, and solve the mystery.
This activity is perfect for working with Claims, Reasoning, and Evidence based thinking and fits well into the new Common Core mode of studying history.
