Students select a word as inspiration from a text source such as poetry, or a story. The word is written at the top of the page. They then select which type of Body, Energy, Space, and Time they think would best suit the word that they have selected.
For example, if the word was windy, the student would select a word for each element category that they think would best represent the word windy. (Body: Twisted, Energy: Strong, Space: using lots of space, Time: fast). They would then improvise movements that meet each of these "ways of moving"
For beginners, you may choose to focus in on only one element at a time. For more advanced students they can create movements that incorporate multiple elements in one place.
Note: there are two copies of the handout per sheet in order to save on paper when photocopying.
