These 2 lessons demonstrate to the student how to create shapes with line, thereby creating positive and negative space at the same time. It will show students how to identify outside and inside space, and different ways to create it.
The first lesson includes a practice worksheet and a framed sheet in which to create a composition using several different shapes that can either stand alone, or overlap to create new shapes. The new shapes can also be left empty, or filled in. The 2nd is an expansion of line and shape for exploring principles of design.
This lesson is targeted to middle school students as it pertains to their level of awareness. Principles of design should be accommodated in the composition.
