4-6 week unit (can easily be shortened or lengthened)
Easily used for grades 7-10. I teach this in junior high (namely 7th grade).
Teaches the main elements of fiction: characterization, setting, point of view, organization, theme, mood, tone, conflict/resolution, and plot diagraming.
Each element is taught using a powerpoint presentation with a student note-taking, follow-along worksheet. Along with a short story and an activity or quiz or assignment for that element.
The whole unit is ended with a final exam.
The short stories used in this unit are: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Cask of Amontillado, The Machine that Won the War, A Crush, Charles, and The Most Dangerous Game.
This unit incorporates reading, writing, viewing short clips, and solo and group participation in one fun unit. My students really enjoying using so many different stories and characters to learn the elements of fiction.
Like some aspects of this unit, but don't want the whole bundle? No problem! I sell each section individually. Check out my store!
