I created this document as a quiz to assess my 6th and 7th graders' understanding of plot elements, types of characters, and conflict. It could also be used as a review activity at the end of a unit on fiction. The quiz asks students to explain the difference between an antagonist and a protagonist, to list the elements of plot, and to name the four types of conflict. It also requires them to explain what internal and external conflict is and to provide an example of each. In addition, there are three true/false. This quiz is aligned with Common Core standards:
RL.6.3 Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of episodes as well as how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.
RL.7.3 Analyze how particular elements of a story or drama interact (e.g., how setting shapes the characters or plot).
