This lesson helps students analyze the elements of plot development (e.g. rising action, climax, falling action, denouement) in various works of fiction. Students (in groups) take notes on the plot elements, create a plot of their own using a graphic organizer and write out the story. The extension lessons include ideas for this lesson using children's literature and fairy tales. The extension lessons are for students who need more assistance and for gifted and talented students. The lesson was created by Abigail Ferguson and the PowerPoint started as another teacher's and was adapted slightly to fit this lesson.
