This is a guide to the background (Mexican Revolution) and vocabulary of the short story "Elena," by Diane Stanley. It's in our Harcourt series, and the story is quite tough for students to read independently. This guide gives students a better grounding in the vocabulary and background knowledge they need to suceed with this text. I also have a challenge activity on the 2nd slide that can be a great extension. My students loved this story, and they get really excited by the presentations.
