This lesson is intended to help your students understand the purpose of and to create an elevator speech they can use for job interviews, internship opportunities or during college visits.
In this handout there are links to two YouTube videos with comprehension questions for each that describe what an elevator speech is, explain its purpose, provide an example and break down the steps to create one. On the next page is a chunked article with comprehension questions about elevator speeches. The next two pages guide students through composing their speech with graphic organizers, prompting questions and a check list.
As the last part of the lesson I have had success with my students presenting their speeches to a partner and then depending on the comfort level of your students, perhaps to the whole class.
