The following seven-page study guide film packet is used to accompany the Jon Favreau-directed 2003 family fantasy Christmas film Elf, starring Will Ferrell. It can be used in an English or film studies classroom. The first page contains a list of cast and crew and a background and introduction on the film. The second page is a page that allows viewers to jot and take down their own notes. Pages three, four, five, and six have comprehension questions to guide the viewer on the work's allusions, camera movement, characterization, cinematography, conflict, costume design, plot, sound, story, symbolism, and themes. The seventh page contains discussion questions on the work's characterization, comparison to other Christmas films, conflicts, irony, themes, and tone. Some questions may need to be edited depending on your students' grade level and/or knowledge of film terminology.
