An elf on the shelf arrives in many classrooms during December just in time for the Christmas holiday and watches how students behave. It is a favorite activity for students to look for the elf daily.
Sometimes, the elf can be a bit naughty.
Other elves promote kindness.
I wasn’t sure about letting an elf sit on a shelf in my classroom until
I decided it would be helpful if he, or she, sat on the bookshelf with little elf-size books to read while we read too. I wondered how much stamina the elf would have for reading. But I was blown away at how focused elves can be! I couldn’t wait to see if my students could stay focused on reading longer than the elf. We had to challenge that elf.
Share a book loving elf with your class.
No elf is included with this download.
However, 16 mini book covers are provided for some light reading for your visiting elf in between watching for naughty and nice behavior to share with “the big guy”. No pages are inside the books as elf magic allows only them to read the text.
Your elf library includes:
an ABC book,
a mystery, and
some new versions of favorite oldies but goodies.
Clean off part of your bookshelf to create a special reading nook for your visiting guest or let the elf find a new spot each day to settle in and get cozy with a new book. For 19 days, your elf will be a gread role model reading along with your students.
