READY TO USE LESSON PLAN
This lesson challenges students to evaluate Elie Wiesel's use of the rhetorical device pathos to communicate his argument in his speech "Hope, Despair and Memory."
This is CCLS recommended texts, and a great supplemental text to Elie Wiesel's memoir Night or his speech "The Perils of Indifference" (for which I also have a lesson posted). https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Elie-Wiesel-Perils-of-Indifference-Anecdote-Lesson-Plus-Handouts-2862760
I have found this lesson to be very effective, as I've used it in my high school classroom. The lesson, which can be used as is by teachers or modified to fit their purposes, consists of an Aim, Do Now, Preview of Pertinent Vocabulary, a Reading Period, a Work Period consisting of rigorous, higher-order, text-dependent questions, an Exit Question, and a Homework assignment-- all of which are aligned to the lesson's Aim.
