These questions correspond to the 47-minute video of Oprah Winfrey and Elie Wiesel visiting Auschwitz. (Link to video provided.)
This serves as a great introduction to Wiesel’s book Night.
Suggested Active Learning Activity:
Instead of giving my students the questions up front, I showed the video in segments.
After each segment, I gave them the questions for that segment and asked them to try to answer as many as possible in small groups. (I asked them to use pencil, so they could make changes.)
We then reviewed and made corrections as a whole class.
Breaking it up this way kept their attention and helped them retain the information since they had to reconstruct from memory. It also kept them from jotting down answers when they should be watching the video.
The editable Word document is 10 pages long.
The first 4 pages contain the Viewing Guide with 72 questions broken up into 6 parts that correspond to the 6 online videos. (Links to the videos are provided).
Pages 5-10 contain the KEY to the Viewing Guide. The key contains both questions and answers.
