Students write poor essays because they write poor paragraphs. Many students simply don’t know what constitutes an effective, well-written paragraph, the cornerstone of the expository or persuasive essay. High 5 Achievers presents a dynamic 52 slide PowerPoint presentation that instructs students on the qualities of effective paragraphs and how to incorporate those qualities into their paragraphs, thus creating powerful essays. The presentation contains numerous slide notes in order to help the instructor teach this lesson to students. This lesson plan, aligned to the Common Core State Standards, also provides an additional 10 page lesson plan which includes five student exercises, including one for advanced students, a graphic organizer and answer keys. When students master this lesson plan, they will eliminate paragraph paralysis and write sterling prose which pings off the page!
