This worksheet allows students the opportunity to practice creating equivalent equations. They are given 4 different systems of equations, all in standard form. They are asked to choose what number(s) they will multiply one or both of the equations in order to set it up properly to do elimination method. They are asked to multiply the equations by the number(s) they chose to create equivalent equations. The 5th problem on the worksheet asks students to critique 4 student responses about creating equivalent equations. This worksheet opens up great opportunities for discussions. I usually have them work independently and then meet with a group to discuss the different equations they came up with. This helps students understand that there are different ways to set up each problem.
