This is a comprehensive unit that covers a wide variety of concepts. It addresses new vocabulary, using context clues, identifying story elements, story retell, sequencing actions, answering "wh" questions, comparing and contrasting, pre-primer sight word review, and a bonus opposites activity. This is a great unit that displays nicely on a smartboard while reading the book during whole group instruction, or it could be printed to use during small group language/literacy centers or even displayed on a tablet. You will need the book, Elmer by David McKee, to accompany this lesson as it is a listening comprehension or reading comprehension unit. There are a number of ways to make this lesson fun and engaging. You could print, laminate and cut the "elephants" at the end to get your students on their feet and moving about with an interactive game or print the sight words to use as flashcards. Happy teaching and I hope you have fun with this unit. Thank you for shopping in my store and please visit often, as new material is added frequently.
