Students will hand-write an expository email (informing or explaining) to their parents about themselves from the teacher's perspective using mostly 3rd person point of view. Assignment can take the entire week as students move through and are graded on The Writing Process stages: prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, evaluating, and publishing. The revising and editing checklist is for the student, their peer editor, and the teacher to use as a rubric for final grading. With limited writing space, students must be cognizant of concise word choice, and coherence with transitions all while elaborating on the given topics from the prewriting. The final draft is then passed out to parents on Meet Your Teacher Night. Parents read the email and give a grade and comments to their son/daughter. Extra Credit is awarded for students whose parents gave comments and a grade.
