This do-now activity will get your class hooked on Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Your students will read a number of sassy quotes of contemporary reactions to the President's Proclamation and summarize the views of both its supporters and critics. They will also hypothesize as to the content of the Emancipation Proclamation (just based on the quotes!).
