Novel studies can get so stale! This literacy scavenger hunt allows students to use their knowledge of the novel and apply it to their local setting (school-wide) in order to find clues and complete their hunt. For students who enjoy active and cooperative learning, as well as puzzles and logic activities, this is the activity for them!
I have used this activity several times, when doing a full class novel student on The City of Ember and the kids love it! They keep begging for more.
All you have to do is print enough clue pages for your groups of students (I tried to keep to 2 students per group), print and cut the clues and place them in envelopes around the school at the designated places and give the students a brief lesson on how to solve the clues (when they see the letter from the top row in the clue, they must insert the letter below on their page).
With little prep, you get your students out of their seats and exploring the book. Enjoy!
