My students have to place their cell phones in a cell phone holder (A.K.A. over the door shoe caddy) upon entering. Each pocket is numbered and each student gets a number assigned to them. I will inevitably have a student, especially teaching in a Title I school, that tells me they have to keep their cell phone with them for emergencies. So I made this punch card. They get a new one each semester. If they want to keep it "for an emergency", I punch their card, and they still must follow all the cell phone policies (silenced, put away during instructional time and/or any time I say, etc.). They get three punches per card/semester. It teaches them responsibility, budgeting, and to place a value on having their phone. Plus - there are no unnecessary distractions in the classroom! This prints 10 credit-card sized cards on an 8 1/2x11 piece of paper.
