The focus of this sub plan is animal behvaior. This is designed to follow up a foundation of the basics of genetics and natural selection and expand on that. This sub plan includes everything you need for your sub. You can print and go that morning.
This plan relies on YouTube videos to teach the lesson, if you do not have access to YouTube these lessons will not work.
There are information pages:
Sub Note (with YouTube playlist link)
Specific for this plan:
Students will have a chance to watch a few videos (a YouTube playlist is provided).
Students will be completing notes during the videos. The focus on animal behavior is about reproduction so please preview videos before using.
There are 4 videos and one graphic notes style worksheet for each video.
I have also included informational texts to work on for the remainder of class. They could be assigned as small group work or individuals, you know your classes best.
There are 6 informational texts in total. I have included a student research sheet for the texts.
The 6 informational text topics are:
•Don’t Feed the Ducks
•Kitten Behavior Basics
•Common Dog Behavior Problems
•Human-Elephant Conflict in Africa
•Why do wildebeests spend their whole lives migrating in a circle?
I would suggest discussing the articles and notes upon your return.
Following this lesson, students will be ready to discuss innate vs. learned animal behavior, the relationship between morphology and physiology to behavior, driving forces behind behavior, various types of behavior and vocabulary.
