This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 4 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing several ELA Informational standards based around analysis of photographs and 2 informational texts. Your students will use close reading comprehension techniques, and create a book as an analysis of the text (vocabulary, cause and effect, and key details).
Segment 1: Students will analyze and make judgments about photographs of an unknown location.
Segment 2: Students will produce a “book” which includes: cause and effect, vocabulary, and key details.
Segment 3: Students will analyze a second text source to continue their creation of a book which includes: cause and effect, vocabulary, and key details.
BONUS- Segment 4: Students will create a visual comparison of glaciers and ice cubes and write a Haiku poem that captures the intent of the text.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
