First Grade half day of math lesson plans containing 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Numbers in Base-Ten: groupings of tens and ones (1.NBT.2). These lessons include: practice counting and bundling tens and identifying remaining ones, making two-digit numbers using tens and ones, writing number sentences in expanded form to equal a number, writing numbers using tens frames, and a paper chain craft to create a visual representation of tens and ones.
Segment 1: Students will bundle objects into groups of tens and ones and then count by tens and ones.
Segment 2: Students will build a two-digit number using base-ten blocks, count by tens and ones, write a number sentence in expanded form for two-digit numbers, and draw a picture using base-ten blocks to represent a two-digit number.
Segment 3: Students will represent a two-digit number by filling in ten frames, write a number sentence in expanded form to equal a two-digit number in the ten frame, and will work in partners to create a paper chain to represent a two-digit number.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
