Love the book by Jules Feiffer? Then you’ll love our plan, “Bark George”. This “In A Pinch” emergency sub plan is ready when you're not, making your emergency sub planning a breeze! This one full day kindergarten plan provides engaging activities in Integrated Language Arts and Mathematics that your students will enjoy, and a substitute will appreciate during your absence. Activities are simply inserted into your regular day schedule as defined in your general information folder for a substitute teacher. If time allows, some classroom teachers prefer to prepare (copy) and organize the materials the sub will be using. We recommend the sub replace and prepare all items used before the end of their duty day so the plan is ready for future use.
This “Bark George” sub plan contains 18 slides and includes a 4 page detailed lesson plan with easy to follow instructions for each activity. The activities are interactive and develop good listening skills. In the area of Integrated Language Arts the lesson begins with a read aloud of Jules Feiffer's book. Children are questioning, predicting, and building vocabulary as they listen to and make meaning of the story. Specific and engaging questions are provided. Following the read aloud is a writing extension that allows students to respond to the story using picture and words. (This is optional class book material!) The little book, “George Can Not Bark” will offer practice in highlighting key vocabulary, matching pictures to words, one-to-one word correspondence, and read-to-self skills. Children will enjoy the “Spy and Spell” fun animal word search. Finally, children will highlight the rhyming words and star words in the poem, “I’ve Got A Dog”. Students will brainstorm actions to use with the poem.
In the area of Math the class will complete a fun graphing activity, followed by discussion that analyzes and compares data. After making the puppy dog game, students will practice skills of counting, simple addition, and simple subtraction. Children will love singing and acting out the “Five Little Pups” take away song. The game “Give A Kid A Bone” will be an opportunity to practice sequencing numbers 1-25. Finally, suggested math extensions include music, large motor activity, and a computer website.
Throughout their day, your students are following the Core Standards and will not miss a beat with your absence!
