This is an emergent reader book by Sara Ipatenco. It encourages children to recognize the simple sight words such as “the,” is” and “this,” while also learning about Indiana. The 10-page book introduces students to key facts about Indiana, including the day it became a state, the capital, the state flag, the state bird, the state flower, the state motto and the state nickname. It uses repeated text and encourages children to use the pictures to figure out unknown words. The simple text encourages phonics skills, too. Simply cut the pages apart and staple them together. I’ve included a black and white version that students can color themselves and a color version that you can print, laminate and use as a classroom book! Enjoy!!
