This is an emergent reader book, by Sara Ipatenco, that encourages children to recognize simple sight words such as “and,” “the,” “a” and “what.” The 10-page book describes the various things one would put on a gingerbread house, such as red candy, green candy and candy canes. The story ends with a finished gingerbread house. It also uses repeated text and encourages children to use the pictures to figure out unknown words. It's a great way to practice phonics too. Simply cut the pages apart and staple them together. I’ve included a black and white version that students can color themselves and a color version that you can print, laminate and use as a classroom book! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!!
