Having enough books is a common problem in the classroom and motivated me to create a series of emergent readers for my own students. The text is designed for beginning readers as it is simple and repetitive. The students practice their sight words, along with using the pictures to decode the unfamiliar words.
Each student has one of these Emergent Readers in their packs to read during ‘Read to Self’ time. I also use them in my Guided Reading sessions. My students have loved using them.
Each book is designed to help students learn the concepts of print such as:
* left to right orientation
* sight words
* 1:1 correspondence (each word has a start underneath to remind the student to point)
The five books in the bundle are:
* At The Zoo
* My Farm
* My Weather Book
* What Do You Like?
* What Is Under The Sea?
Sight words covered in this bundle include:
* we saw a (At The Zoo)
* today it will be (My Weather Book)
* this is my (My Farm)
* I like to (What Do You Like?)
* I see a (What Is Under The Sea?)
The books are easy to assemble – simply photocopy them, cut on the dotted line and staple together. There are two copies on each page for easy assembling. I like to copy the front page onto colored paper.
