Analyzing character traits and feelings is one of my favorite skills to teach, but it is also one of the hardest. Students don’t know a lot of the vocabulary they need to in order to describe a character and they can have a tough time using context clues to figure out the meaning of given word. That’s where this product comes in. I grouped like traits/feelings on the posters so that students could see that there is more than one way to describe a certain feeling and that there can be “shades” of different feelings. “Maybe the character isn’t really happy, maybe they’re pleased or estatic?” My student have been able to understand this SO much better than in previous years and the emojis help them decipher what the word means on their own.
I blogged about how I use this in my class on my website. Click here
