Students’ minds will be stimulated and challenged as they use logic to figure out the value of each symbol included in a puzzle. All games have a Christmas theme, which appeal to students and make solving the puzzles fun and interesting!
In order to solve a puzzle, students must apply their knowledge of addition and subtraction . They must think about how the symbols relate to each other and the sums given in rows and columns. It may be helpful for students to use scratch paper as they work. This activity also doubles as a fun coloring page. When students solve a puzzle, they may relax and color.
As our students learn more and more about the importance of developing a growth mindset, activities such as logic puzzles encourage them to stick with challenging tasks and learn from mistakes. It would be very helpful to students to model a similar problem and think through it with a small or whole group. This will help build confidence when students are expected to solve the problems on their own. This resource is great for math centers, small group instruction, and early finishers.
