Problem solving is a critical skill all students must learn. Make it fun and easy for students to solve for unknown variables (images) in this 96 problem pack! Logic problems allow students the opportunity to work on problem solving skills. These fun images will make it fun and exciting for students to try to figure out the value of an airplane, or how much a monster with a snowball is worth!
Students will work through solving for each of three variables (images) and then for a final answer. These problems are perfect for fifth grade; but can also be used with your fourth and sixth grade students. Consider using this as morning work, in a center, as a "fast finisher" activity, homework, or a math warmup!
This bundle was designed to be teacher and student friendly...you'll get the following in this product:
↠3 Levels of Problems
Level One: 32 Problems that only have addition and subtraction as the operations. These problems typically feature numbers within 100.
Level Two: 32 Problems that include all four operations. The first 16 problems do not require students to use order of operations to solve, the second 16 problems do require order of operations (but no parenthesis, or exponents)
Level Three: 32 problems that include all four operations and order of operations to solve. The first 16 problems include parenthesis and exponents. The second 16 problems feature components of all of the previous problems, as well as "doubles". Some images will now appear as doubles-for instance, two apples plus two apples equals 8, so one apple must equal 2. These problems require students to not only think logically, but pay attention to the number of images presented.
Two Versions: Each level discussed above is presented in two separate versions. While each version has the exact same problems in it, the format changes will allow you to select the most appropriate for your room. Version one presents four different problems on one page. This means each student will receive one whole sheet. Version two presents 4 identical copies of the same problem. This will require you to cut each page into fourths, and hand out one fourth to each child.
An easy to read answer key, means you can quickly and easily check student work, or display for students to check their own work.
↠Bulletin Board Materials
One of the reasons I love doing these problems in my classroom, is because of the conversations that occur. Hearing students "think out loud" to solve is a great, natural way to get students thinking outside of the box and using those great mathematical practices. Students can suggest ideas and then debate amongst themselves if an answer is valid. Included in this product are supplies to create a math bulletin board. This will allow you to create either your own problems, or recreate the ones in this packet. I'd suggest using these within your own classroom, as a weekly challenge for your "fast finishers" or using these on a board somewhere within your school. Encourage students of other grade levels or classrooms to solve. Logic must be practiced to develop those necessary problem solving skills-the more often students see problems, the more likely they are going to gain skills to solve them.
Included in this packet is two different versions of every image and math symbol. There is a full color version and a line art version of each piece necessary to create the boards.
Thank you so much for your interest in this product! Included in the preview is a three page freebie of this product. There is a sample problem from each level, as well as an answer key. Give it a try with your class today!
