Description

Help your students understand their emotions, feelings, and body sensations with helpful visuals and teaching tools! Available in Google Slides™️ and printable, no-prep pages, you’ll have everything you need to help your students move past basic “happy” and “sad.”

Emotional awareness is foundational skill for developing emotional and self regulation. So many of my students struggled understanding their emotions until we built a foundation of two critical skills:

  • Increasing awareness of the sensations and feelings in their body
  • Putting words to their thoughts

Only after targeting those foundational skills did my students begin the process of connecting the dots to understanding their own sensations and feelings. From there, we were better able to target other skills that rely on emotional awareness including self-advocacy and self-regulation skills.

This resource contains the visuals, graphic organizers, and worksheets that were most effective and helpful for me and my students.

In the beginning of the resource are a few teaching pages so you can teach the difference between thoughts, body sensations, and feelings. Then, I've provided a ton of different worksheets, visuals, and graphic organizers to help your students identify body sensations and feelings in their own body! Last, there are two sections of feelings worksheets that allow you to discuss a variety of specific feelings (e.g., brave, calm, confused) more in depth.

Here's some reasons why other SLPs have loved this resource:

♥ ”Great visuals to teach explicit concepts about something so abstract! Currently working with clinical psychologists in an anxiety treatment group and the ideas and concepts here align with best practice in that group as well. Fantastic work!” - Kelsey C.

♥ ”I am just obsessed with how clear, straightforward, and thorough this resource is. It has the explicit, systematic teaching that really works well for my students on the spectrum (and myself).” - Sarah F.

♥ ”Shannon never disappoints. This resource is amazing! I already love the few beginning pages I have used for teaching purposes and love the variety of activities included to target emotional regulation skills. I didn't realize how much I needed this for my caseload until I purchased it and started going through it. SO USEFUL!” - Sunflower SLP

Make sure to check out some of my tips on teaching self-regulation strategies in my blog.

I also talk about why and how I work on emotional awareness, including suggested goals!
