This elementary school counseling small group curriculum is designed to promote emotional intelligence. 12 group sessions focus on self-awareness (understanding basic and complex emotions), effective coping strategies, empathy, and managing social relationships (communication, active listening, and conflict resolution).
Includes: 12 lesson plans (objective(s), outline, materials list, and ASCA standards alignment), all necessary handouts, all necessary visual aids, teacher nomination form, parental consent form, group passes, emotional intelligence assessment that can be used as pre-test and post-test.
From the rationale: Emotional intelligence is the ability to positively
identify, understand, and manage emotions, and it directly impacts behavior and
relationships. Emotional intelligence in children has been found to be
positively correlated with teacher-rated positive behaviors and negatively
correlated with teacher-rated negative behaviors, such as conduct problems,
peer relationship problems, emotional symptoms, and hyperactivity (Mavroveli,
et al., 2008). Emotional intelligence can be increased as a result of emotional
intelligence education programs, such as small groups (Ulutaş, & Ömeroğlu, 2007).
