This is a classic introduction to the topic of emotions. The lecture begins with a reflection on the difficulty of answering the question, "what is an emotion?". Biological theories of emotion are divided into peripheralist and centralist views, including the James-Lange Theory and Facial Feedback Theories (a good link can be made here to the show, Lie to Me) as well as Cannon criticism of James-Lange, and research on the limbic system and the right hemisphere. Other topics include the Schacter and Singer experiment, and cognitive and social theories of emotion.
