All reading teachers teach character development at some point during the year and I think ALL teachers want students to learn empathy. This lesson meant for an English Language Arts block does both!
Students think from the perspective of their characters by putting themselves in the character's shoes. First, a clip from This is Us is shown to kick off the lesson. Then, students complete a Google Slide for their independent reading books about their characters. Lastly, they complete a Seesaw video recording talking from the point-of-view of their character during an emotional moment.
**This is a sample lesson from my Deep Study of Character unit (from Lucy Calkins Unit of Study). You must be comfortable with Google Slides and Seesaw for this to be successful!**
