In their study of empires, students will learn that, historically, all empires have a lifespan. This unit graphically illustrates the five stages of life all empires go through whatever the number of years it takes them. With the information on the graphic organizer, the students should be able to track the life of any empire studied through the five stages of life described. They could also bring the blank graphic organizer to class with them each day to fill in as they study later empires. A blank essay outline, paragraph form and rubric are included as an independent follow-up assignment.
Other activities using the information on their organizers are described. You may also be interested in Culture, Civilization, and Empire in the What's That? Series
