Unit One of Enjoy and Employ is entitled “Let’s Get It Started!” It serves as an introductory unit with the capacity to augment the delivery of any beginner, Spanish curriculum. All lesson plans, strategies, and materials have been created in alignment with the Standards for Foreign Language Learning, as defined by the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).
Content is grouped in ten, thematic lessons. Each lesson has a focus question that represents what students should be able to ask and answer in the target language as a result of learning the corresponding vocabulary and/or grammatical structures associated with it. Each lesson contains the following:
-a lesson title and objective
-alignment to one or more of ACTFL's foreign language learning standards
-a suggested list of materials
-a hook statement/activity
-specific directions for guided instruction, small group activities and independent practice
-guidelines for informally assessing students throughout the lesson and a formative assessment (exit slip) for the conclusion of the lesson
-lesson-specific, student resource worksheets
Consejitos (helpful little hints) are interwoven throughout the entire unit to offer additional support. Teachers are highly encouraged to use data from daily formative assessments (i.e. exit slips or learning logs) to guide their instructional pacing. A speaking and writing performance assessment culminates the text.
