This creative writing assignment requires students to become familiar with the stylistic choices of either Dickinson or Whitman, and to mimic those choices while composing a poem of their own.

The students are required to compose a title in the style of the mimicked author, meet a minimum line number requirement, use at least three stylistic features typical of the mimicked author, and compose a reflection of 150-250 words. In the reflection, students must identify the 3 stylistic features they used, and explains the reasoning for the other choices they made.

The rubric assess students in the following categories: Ideas/Content, Success in Mimicking Author, Title, Cohesiveness & Length, and Reflection.
