Give your students choice over their assessments with this reading project rubric! This rubric leaves some flexibility as it can be used with most reading units, grade levels, and student ability. It is perfect in my special education reading classes because I can use the same resource for ALL my kids.
Distribute one to each student at the end of a unit and discuss the different projects along with expectations you have for each one. Then have students put stars next to their top 2 choices; use those preferences to get students put into groups. I usually give students two to three days to work on their projects and then take one day to present to the class.
Quiz Score - there is a section in the rubric to record a quiz score. I always give a short, 15 question quiz that covers the most important parts of the unit. This shows me how well my students understand the facts. The rest of the project allows students to demonstrate higher level thinking skills.
