This activity is for the end of the year, called "Box of Friends." Students will make a memory box, and gather "treasures" from their friends for their boxes. Students will need to bring a shoebox (or similar box) to school. Students will also bring a "treasure" (the same treasure) for each of their classmates. They could connect the item to their favorite book that they've read that year.
The students will also give the title and author's name of their favorite book from that year. When they present and pass out their treasure to their peers, they will give them the name of a great book. All students leave your room with a list of books to try over the summer!
We present these items over the the last week (about 5-6 presenters/day). It takes about 1 hour, in total.
This includes an editable letter home to parents, and the recommended reading chart.
Students LOVE this activity, and I get notes from parents before the beginning of every school year that they caught their child looking through their "Box of Friends" before starting the next school year! Enjoy!
