Would you like to learn about next year’s incoming students and begin to establish a positive rapport with them?
Invite future students to your classroom and spend a short amount of time getting to know them. Let current students create a list of “advice” of how to succeed at the next grade level. Talk about what to expect, the environment (especially if they are coming to a new school), special programs unique to your school, grades, and the forms of communication available (i.e. email, letters home, online gradebook).
This worksheet allows students to share their personality with their new teacher and alleviate some of their fears of transitioning from one grade level to the next. Teachers should fill out their own profile to let students know what to expect and what is expected of them.
