As the school year is winding down, during those last few days of school when teachers have ‘time to kill’ I want my students to still be doing meaningful work and activities! During that time, I always have my students create these brochures to share important tips/hints on how to have a successful year in 3rd grade!
We discuss what a piece of advice is and what helpful tips are. We then talk about information they feel is important for the incoming 2nd graders to know about what they’ve learned about my classroom, or the third grade and how this information can help them to have a great school year! The students admit that they had to learn some things the difficult way, so they would definitely like to warn my future students about it (trying to get away with breaking rules, not paying attention, etc).
Once the brochures are all completed I collect them from my kids. Our school holds an annual Meet and Greet where students and parents come to drop off their supplies (before school has started) and to meet their teacher. Each year, I then share these brochures with my incoming students and tell them that my students from last year created this in hopes of sharing some advice on how to have a great year in Room 25!
The kids are always excited about getting this, the parents think it’s great, and my last year students sometimes drop in to see who chose their brochure!
I hope these end of year brochures are as big a hit with your students as they have been with mine!!
