This packet can be used as an end of the year activity. It asks the kids to write a letter to the future student that will share their number, or desk, etc. The packet breaks down the essay into different sections so that the kids can:
-plan their reasons and thesis statement
-plan evidence to support their reasons
-write short personal narratives or anecdotes that can be added to their evidence
-draft the body paragraphs
-write introductions and conclusions
-write a final letter.
On the first day of school of the following year you can leave the students' letters out on the desk for the new student to read and be welcomed to the class with.
I have done this activity every year that I have taught and the kids are always so excited to read their letters.
