Learning to be on a budget is important for student's to understand. Teach your class about budgeting by planning a vacation.
The end of the year is hard to keep student's engaged and learning. You can use this research activity for your class to plan a vacation over their summer break. Give your student's a budget and let their imaginations run wild. They can go anywhere in the world as long as they stick to the budget assigned.
You can let your class work in groups/partners to plan the perfect vacation. First student's will brainstorm a list of places they would like to go. Then they will pick a location, and write about why they want to visit. Student's will need to use computers to research flight costs, car rental, lodging, entertainment nearby, and restaurants they will eat at. The class will present their vacation at the end of the project. Included are rubrics for the teacher to grade their project easily. The student's will even rate their group members for participation.
I hope you enjoy, and find this project beneficial to your class. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact.
