If you’re looking for an activity for your seniors at the end of the year when they are completely disengaged and ready to be done with high school, this activity is perfect to hook them back in. This activity allows students to reflect on their time in high school, from their highlights to their lowest moments, and really think about what got them to the place they are today.
I designed this activity so that students are writing for an authentic audience. The goal is that these Survival Guides will be given to the rising seniors so that they can learn from the mistakes of their peers and also get words of encouragement to help them excel during their senior year. If you have the ability to, you can pair every senior with a junior so that students know who it will be going to. If not, it still works just as well. These can then be distributed at the beginning of the next year to the new seniors, or, if you have time, the two grades can meet up at the end of the year and exchange.
Not only is it a sanity saver for you, but it's also super fun for students and is low-prep for those last two hectic weeks of the year!
