Testing is over, major units have wrapped up, only a few weeks remain of the school year...this is the perfect time to use my "We Didn't Start the Fire" mini unit.
Guide students through an in-depth study of Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" by focusing on rhyme scheme, theme, allusion and meter. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with the music and social studies teachers as well by focusing on the history of the song and the melody. End the unit by creating a class version of the song based on the events of the past school year. If you're feeling extra enthusiastic pop on an instrumental version of the song from Youtube and sing your class version aloud!
In the past, I have used this as both a two week mini-unit and as a two day quick activity. The Lesson Overview included with this product will guide you through the unit. Included with this product are all of the resources you need to make this a two week unit. Pick and choose what works best for your time frame.
