Beach Ball STEM Day is a fun end of the year activity. Students will rotate around five different beach ball themed centers for hands-on critical thinking, measurement, and engineering projects. Use a different center each day during the last week of school, or do all of the centers in one engaging beach ball themed day!
Stations and Materials:
Beach Ball Measurement
--measure length, circumference, height, and mass
Materials: student balance, ruler, measuring tape
Beach Ball Torch
-- students will create a device that carries the beach ball like a torch
Materials: aluminum foil
Beach Ball Tower
-- students will create an index card tower that supports a beach ball
Materials: index cards, tape
Beach Ball Suitcase
-- students will create a suitcase that completely encloses the beach ball and can be carried with a handle
Materials: newspaper, tape
Beach Ball Picker Upper
-- students will construct a device that picks up a beach ball
Materials: rubber bands and various pool or beach toys (pool noodle, plastic shovels, etc...)
**You will also need a stop watch and at least 6 beach balls.
As an added bonus, buy everyone a beach ball as an end of the year gift, and have them spend the last part of the day signing each other’s beach balls as a fun send off!
