If your kiddos get SUPER excited about non-fiction and are begging you to read those shiny animal books with amazing color photographs and fascinating facts, then this resource might be exactly what your classroom is looking for!
In this resource you will be able to talk about animals, habitats, non-fiction, vocabulary, fluency, writing, oral presentations and so much more!
If you are wondering, "Does she REALLY use this resource in her classroom?" the answer is YES YES YES! I use this resource EVERY YEAR and it is always a hit with my class. We raffle off the animals so the students are able to choose an animal fairly and they spend the next couple of days, researching, going through the writing process, and completing oral presentations.
Now, I know color ink is such a HOT commodity that we scrimp and save and hesitate to use it--here is what I did. I printed off the 4 animal fact cards on cardstock, laminated and secured with a ring for durability. I did have the extra ink to print off the color posters. I display the final writing projects in the hallway underneath the color posters and we always get compliments. For fun, hang some jungle vines and leaves for a ROCKIN hallway display and I dare your administration to walk by and not notice!!
So, I bet you are wondering what is included in this file. It has over 3,000 pages but I want to explain why the file is so large. Originally, the file had about 600 pages and all of the facts were written geared towards students in the United States with standard measurements. I had a few of my friends contact me and ask if I could add metric measurements as well. SO, what I did was when I was making revisions I made the entire bundle TWICE: each animal has everything you need if you teach using standard measurements AND metric measurements. Yes, the information is the same in each all I did was change the measurements to fit all of my friends!
When you download and are looking for standard measurements, click on the animal name. If you are looking for metric measurements, click on the animal name that has Euro included in the title description.

The grade levels and vocabulary always is a question that is brought up. Yes, I use this in my 2nd grade classroom and there are words that are challenging. This is a resource that can be used for multiple grade levels but only YOU know the level of your students and whether or not this resource would fit their needs. You don't have to use EVERY page of this resource when teaching this unit. I use a handful from each animal because my students do a lot of their research independently and we don't have the time to do everything. I get it. We are all expected to complete so much in a short window of time!!
I appreciate you looking over this resource and would love to hear what you think after you download. If you have any problems, I would ask that you contact me so I can fix it for you! firstname.lastname@example.org
If you feel like you don't want all of the animals listed above, they will be available in individual sets that will include both the standard and metric measurement versions. Please check out my store for details!
When you download this resource you will find there is only ONE PAGE. Please do not think this is an error. Due to the file size, you will read information on a link to DROPBOX and from there you can access all of your resources. The dropbox link is not something that is to be shared with another colleague but is only for you.
